Johar!
If you appreciate an opportunity of If you appreciate an opportunity of going into history , you must be a part of it. In 2000, I was Secretary of the ASI Bihar Chapter, and I had also served as GC member of ASI and in this tenure, the Chapter received the Best Chapter Award for four consecutive years. into history, you must be a part of it...
Jharkhand state was being carved out in 2000. Our membership number was at that time less than 150. On 8th April 2001, under the stewardship of the then Head Quarters Hony. Secretary, Prof, T. Gunasagaran, Jharkhand Chapter’s first inaugural meeting took place in Bokaro.
Late Dr Ram Bali Sinha, often quoted as Father of Surgery in Jharkhand, was installed as Founder Chairman and I was entrusted with the responsibility to take over as Founder Secretary of the Chapter.
Celebrities Prof G Das, Prof M Alam, Prof A K Srivastava, Prof M S Bhat, Prof R N Singh, Prof V K Jain, Prof Joginder Singh, Prof A K Sahay encouraged me in this constructive activity of creating the Chapter.
With our membership crossing 150 numbers, we were given regular elected membership of G.C. for one member. I was elected as the first G.C. member of this Chapter. Our presence at the national level was felt emphatically and within seven years of its existence, I was elected as the National President of ASI in 2008, and at ASICON, Ludhiana I was installed President for 2009.
Last year Dr Uday Srivastava took the challenge of “Abki Baar 350 Paar” and that gave us required number of members for two G.Cs from the state, which was another historical occasion. All the members decided to send two very capable representatives Dr Sunil Kumar and Dr Jugal Kishore Choudhary unopposed as G.C from Jharkhand. This ‘Jodi’ is representing us very capably.
Now the dream of Best Chapter Award is to be realized. I am confident that we can achieve it with the presence of the Chapter Secretary, Dr Azad, who raised JASICON Organization bar by organizing Giridih JASICON under the able guidance of the humble Chapter Chairman, Dr Om Prakash.
The academic flavour by efforts of Dr Arunima Verma ,I.J.S. Editorial Board Member and Vice Chairman of Chapter is exemplary, and she is bound to achieve many more milestones for the chapter.
The presence of internationally acclaimed personality Dr Sunil Kumar, with his connection to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, would take the teaching and training activities of the Chapter to greater heights
Before I conclude, likes of Dr Satish Midha, Dr Vijay Kumar, Dr S K Karan, Dr Nidhish Sharan, Dr H L Saha, Dr O P Agrawal, Dr G N Sahu, Dr N K Chaudhary, Dr Aman Srivastava, Prof Shital Malua & Prof Pankaj Bodra deserve special mention as they contributed immensely in bringing this chapter to its present glory.
Let us dream of installing another National ASI President in near future.
Long live ASI! Long live Jharkhand Chapter!
